ingenie Business introduced a new telematics solution to Dutch insurer and recovery company ANWB / Unigarant in 2016 in order to revolutionise how driving data is captured, delivered back to their customers and ultimately change driving behaviour.
Initially launched as an OBD proposition in 2016, ANWB were keen to stay at the forefront of telematics innovation, as such ingenie Business worked with ANWB to launch an App as a Sensor (AaaS) solution that could meet their customer and data needs.
The ‘ingenie Sensor’ app was introduced to the Dutch market by ANWB under its Drive Safe Brand. ingenie’s latest app innovation builds on the success of Drive Safe, surpassing ANWB’s standard car insurance in delivering lower loss ratios and rewarding drivers with discounts for safe driving. This now represents more than 52% of all live policies.
Uniquely calibrated against traditional gold standard black box telematics data for over 2 years and trialed with real customer policies in the UK and the Netherlands, ‘ingenie Sensor’ was a game changer for this market.
3 years after the successful launch of ANWB’s telematics motor insurance in the Netherlands, over 35,000 customers aged between 17 to 80 now drive safer as a result of this bespoke partnership.
ANWB’s traditional insurance proposition attracted an older demographic who infrequently engaged with their motor insurance product. These customers were left frustrated by their inability to get cheaper premiums even though their crash free driving had already earned them a maximum No Claims Discount.
Based on 600,000km of data captured as part of a pre-launch trial, ingenie Business adapted their current telematics product to work on a mass market scale, reflecting localised conditions and creating a bespoke app attracting drivers of all ages.
By customising and calibrating existing rules and algorithms, ANWB were able to quickly embed telematics in their organisation, fast tracking their realisation of commercial benefits.
United by a common goal to save lives using technology to change driving behaviour, ingenie Business introduced new functionality to help customers appreciate the impact of being distracted by their smartphone. The app also gives them personalised information via heatmaps about worrying driving trends.
These advancements successfully and significantly increased customer engagement contributing to national road safety and resulting in smarter, safer drivers.
“When we embarked on this journey we anticipated and realised significant insurance business benefits but one of the added value side effects we didn’t anticipate was how much closer it would bring us to our customers and how engaged they would be with their driving feedback and as a result, our brand.”
